Tweet 2nd Return FH II Drive + FH IO Drop Shot Mix (Ad Side), by Rafael Font de Mora Objective: Attack your opponent's weak 2nd serve by mixing your forehand inside in drive and your forehand inside out drop shot. Description: There is nothing more frustrating to your opponents than seeing you demolish their weak second serve. By mixing up your powerful drives with your drop shots, you will keep your opponent honest. They will not be able to guess where your powerful drives are aimed, and they cannot anticipate and back up behind the baseline to chase down your returns. By mixing your power and finesse you will become a complete player. The key to your success in mixing these 2 shots is to use the same preparation to disguise your stroke. Transfer your weight forward in the direction of both of your shots. Place a target in both corners, as placement and consistency are crucial. By driving the return inside and then hitting an inside out drop shot, your opponent has to cover the furthest distance to reach both balls. This is what makes this particular pattern so effective - as you well know, tennis is a mental game. The higher the level of play and the more skills you develop, the more mental the game becomes. Attacking the second serve is the easiest way to put mental pressure on your opponents’ mindsets. Once you can get into their minds by breaking down their second serves, their entire games will start to crumble.
